Life as a married couple is a blessing from God. To be able to count on someone to share our dreams and challenges, victories and defeats, and, especially, to live out, together, God’s purposes here on Earth is something so precious and desired by us all.
However, as with many things in life, everything that is valuable also has a high cost. So it is with marriage as well.
We know that there are many challenges throughout a couple’s journey, so we would like to share with you some tips on how to overcomes these challenges and preserve this wonderful union that God created.
1- Decide to resolve an issue as soon as possible Hebrews 12:14-15 says, “Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.” (NLT)
If you have a disagreement with your spouse, work at resolving it as soon as possible. Don’t allow a small thing to grow into a snowball and explode at any moment.
The Word of God teaches us to walk in peace with everyone. How much more so with the person with whom we have become one flesh!
2- Be a good listener
“Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow
to get angry.” James 1:19 (NLT)
When resolving a problem, you should be more willing to listen than to speak, even if you are the one who was hurt. Each one should have his/her time to speak, but, especially, to listen.
Many times, the simple act of showing your spouse that you are willing to listen to him/her already resolves a big part of the problem at hand.
3- Ask for forgiveness and forgive
“If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.” Matthew 6:14-15 (NLT)
As Christians, we need to forgive our neighbor, and, especially, our marriage partner.
Besides the fact that our faith in God should lead us to forgiveness, there are also studies that show that people who harbor bitterness are more prone to develop emotional and physical sicknesses.
Therefore, ask for forgiveness, and forgive as well!
We believe these are some ways for you to resolve conflicts in your home.
